Hardware Tab

FlexNet Manager Suite ()

On the Hardware tab, you can view and search through tangible, hardware assets and devices associated with a user.

Note: Devices are only visible when they are linked to asset records.

For details about managing which columns are visible, see Managing Columns in a Table.

The Assets area contains the following table columns.

ColumnDetails
**Asset tag**The company-specific identification code assigned to this asset. Editable in the **General** tab of the asset properties.
**Asset type**The kind of tangible asset, either as a type of inventory device \(`Laptop`, `Mobile Device`, `Server`, or `Workstation`\), or one of several other types of non-device assets. The **Asset type** value is editable in the **General** tab of the asset properties.
**Category**Categories represent how assets are classified within your enterprise. For example, if you would like to group assets for different purposes \(such as production, warm-start backup, and the like\), you could define a category called `Asset Types` and sub-categories for each type of asset. You could then assign each asset to one of these categories. **Tip:** You can create categories through **Enterprise** > **Categories**.
**Comments**Additional information, or comments, added by operators.
**Delivery date**The date the asset arrived or was first used. Editable in the **Financial** tab of the asset properties.
**Description**The name given to identify this asset. Editable in the **Name** field in the **General** tab of the asset properties.
**Disposal date**The date that the asset was disposed of, and left the enterprise. Editable in the **General** tab of the asset properties \(only when the asset **Status** is `Retired` or `Disposed`\).
**Email**This field shows the user's email address associated with a mobile device from the most recently synchronized inventory \(applicable to mobile devices only\). Note that a user's email address can be either collected during the inventory, depending on a source, or can be entered manually.
**IMEI**Applicable to mobile devices only: shows the International Mobile Equipment Identity \(IMEI\) number. This number is a nominally unique identifier for mobile phones. Most mobile phone brands, for example, iPhone®, Windows®- and Android®-running ones, do not supply IMEI data to Exchange ActiveSync data source, and therefore cannot be imported into the IMEI field. You could use this field to keep track of IMEIs manually.
**Installation date**Date of first use of the asset.
**Inventory chassis type**The type of a frame or housing for a computer, device, or similar asset. Editable in the **General** tab of the asset properties.
**Linked inventory**The software or hardware inventory record that belongs to this asset. An asset is linked to the appropriate inventory record when: - The linking of assets is controlled from a business adapter. - The asset is created first, and the inventory is collected thereafter. The existing asset is linked to the appropriate incoming inventory record based on matching serial numbers. Note, however, that if there are duplicate serial numbers, either on existing unattached asset records or in the incoming stream of inventory devices, the duplicates cannot be resolved, and in this case the linking of asset with inventory device cannot happen automatically. You will need to intervene manually to resolve the duplicate serial numbers. - The asset record is created manually from an existing inventory record from the Inventory Without Assets page. **Note:** If the inventory record is created before the asset record, FlexNet Manager Suite will recommend a link based on the matching serial number, but the linking needs to be done manually. Use the search fly-down to identify the inventory record to associate with this asset. For details, see To Use a Fly-Down.
**Manufacturer**Who built the machine represented as this asset. Editable in the **General** tab of the asset properties.
**Model**The manufacturer’s model name or number for this asset. Editable in the **General** tab of the asset properties.
**Name**The name of a computing asset. When computer assets are linked to inventory, the inventory device name is assigned to this field. **Important:** If your computing asset is linked to an inventory device, do *not* use a business adapter to update the asset name, as this will be overwritten by the inventory device name again. Similarly, do not update the asset name manually, but make any changes through the inventory source.
**Serial number**The unique identifier for the inventory device linked to this asset record. The manufacturer's serial number \(where it exists\) of the linked inventory device is automatically copied here whenever the linked inventory device is updated. Editable in the **Serial number** field in the **General** tab of the asset properties.
**Status**Where this asset is within the asset life-cycle. The following options are provided by default \(however additional options may be imported using a business adapter\): - `Disposed` — The asset is no longer held by the enterprise, as it has been sold, given away, thrown out, or destroyed. - `In storage` — The asset has been delivered but has not been installed. - `Installed` — The asset is in active use \(standard operating condition\). - `Other` — Any other status used by your organization to classify an asset. This value does not affect any automated processing. - `Purchased` — The asset has been purchased but not delivered. - `Retired` — The asset has been retired from use, but remains within the enterprise.
The Devices area contains the following table columns.
ColumnDetails
**Category**The category chosen for this asset.
**Display adapters**The number of the computer's display adapters \(monitor connections\).
**Domain name**The name of the domain to which the computing device belongs. **Tip:** Records fabricated for special purposes display special values: - A dummy device record created for imports through your connector to Flexera One SaaS Management displays `flexera.com` - A record representing an Oracle Database running in Amazon Relational Database Service \(RDS\) shows the full DNS alias \(excluding the actual machine name\), such as ``` clv8xj7busyg.eu-west-1.rds.amazonaws.com ```
**Email**This field shows the user's email address associated with a mobile device from the most recently synchronized inventory \(applicable to mobile devices only\). Note that a user's email address can be either collected during the inventory, depending on a source, or can be entered manually.
**Hard drives**The number of hard drives the computer reported after the inventory.
**Host**Indicates whether the discovered computer is a virtual host or a management server.
**IMEI**Displays the International Mobile Equipment Identity \(IMEI\) number, if any. Applicable to mobile devices only: shows the International Mobile Equipment Identity \(IMEI\) number.
**Inventory chassis type**The type of a frame or housing for a computer, device, or similar asset.
**Inventory device type**Specifies the type of the inventory device, which may be any of the following values: - `Cluster` — A cluster of several computers, typically managed by Kubernetes and with consumption reported by the IBM License Service \(which does not allow for further breakdown, for example to individual hosts or VMs within the cluster\) - `Computer` — A computing device like a desktop, laptop, workstation, or a non-virtualized server. - `Mobile device` — A mobile device like a tablet or smart phone. - `Product` — Not a device type, but a pseudo-value used only in IBM VPC licenses to identify rows showing the licensed IBM product. This value may appear only if the Bundle consumption rules \(in the license properties **Use Rights & Rules** tab, under **License consumption rules**\) have the option **Consume for each product on a device** selected. - `Remote Device` — The device is a remote device \(not appearing in inventory\) known to have accessed virtualized applications. This value is created automatically. - `VDI Template` — The VDI template used to create the virtual desktop instance that was accessed from an inventory device \(see Virtual Desktop Templates\). This value is created automatically. - `Virtual Machine` — A virtual machine running on a physical host machine. A physical host can run multiple virtual machines using virtualization technologies from VMWare, Oracle, Microsoft, and so on. Note that this value is also used for a record fabricated to represent an Oracle Database running on Amazon Relational Database Service \(RDS\). - `VM Host` — A physical virtual host running one or more virtual machines using any virtualization technology, such as VMWare. Editable in the **Inventory device type** field in the **General** tab of the inventory device properties. The value may be overwritten by incoming inventory.
**IP address**The IP address of the inventory device. The value of this field may change as some computers may have dynamically assigned IP addresses. If an inventory device has multiple IP addresses, this field displays a comma-separated list, to a maximum of 256 characters \(when there are more than 256 characters, the list is truncated at the last available comma separator, and all following IP addresses are lost\). **Tip:** Addresses in the IPv6 address family are displayed where they have been returned by the inventory source. However, FlexNet inventory sources on UNIX-like operating systems \(only\) do not return any IPv6 addresses. Therefore: - For non-Windows inventory devices in exclusively IPv6 networks reported only in FlexNet inventory, the IP address remains blank. \(In contrast, Windows inventory devices in the same conditions display their IPv6 address.\) - In dual-stack scenarios using FlexNet inventory, for non-Windows devices the IPv4 addresses are displayed but the IPv6 addresses are omitted. \(Windows inventory devices include both address families in the list of IP addresses.\) - Where \(in an IPv6 network\) FlexNet inventory returns no IP address for a UNIX-like device, but the same device appears in another inventory source that *does* return IPv6 addresses, the secondary source data is merged with the blank field, and the IPv6 address appears in the listing. These conditions apply regardless of the method of collecting FlexNet inventory, and include UNIX-like devices inventoried by: - The locally installed FlexNet Inventory Agent - An inventory beacon using zero footprint inventory collection - The UNIX equivalent of the lightweight FlexNet Inventory Scanner \(`ndtrack.sh`\).
**Last inventory date**The last date information about the device was reported.
**Linked asset**The name of an asset, if any, that the device is linked to. **Tip:** If the status of the linked asset is set to `Retired` \(in the asset properties\), the linked inventory device remains visible in the **All Inventory** list, but is suppressed in the **Out-Of-Date Inventory** list, regardless of how long it is since the device reported inventory. The link between an inventory device and an asset is editable in the **General** tab of the inventory device properties.
**MAC address**The Media Access Control \(MAC\) address is a unique identifier assigned to each network interface card \(NIC\) of the device. If a device has multiple NICs, this field displays a comma-separated list of MAC addresses. **Tip:** This field is deliberately empty for discovered device records created automatically by the Amazon connector to represent installations of Oracle Database within Amazon Relational Database Service \(RDS\).
**Manufacturer**The **Manufacturer** value is not editable, and is reported from hardware inventory.
**Max clock speed**The highest clock speed that the computer is capable of.For information about modifying the value in this field, see Overriding Hardware Inventory Values.
**Model**The manufacturer’s model name or number for this asset. For information about modifying the value in this field, see Overriding Hardware Inventory Values.
**Name**The name of the computing device.
**Network cards**The total number of network cards installed in a physical inventory device; or the number of network cards accessible by the virtual machine. This data is read-only.
**Operating system**The **Operating system** value is not editable, and is reported from hardware inventory. If the item was added manually, then this value is editable in the **Hardware** tab of the inventory device properties. If the item was added manually, then this value is editable in the **Hardware** tab of the inventory device properties.
**Processor count**The number of processors on the computer, usually as reported in hardware inventory. The **Processors** count is reported from hardware inventory. However, because some inventory sources have difficulty reporting this value, you can manually override the inventory value in the **Hardware** tab of the inventory device properties.
**Processor type**The type of processor installed on this computer, as reported in hardware inventory. Editable in the **Hardware** tab of the Inventory device properties.
**Serial number**The unique identifier for the device. This data is read-only.
